Greg is co-author with Sallie Ann Robinson of Gullah Home Cooking the Daufuskie Way, published in 2003 by University of North Carolina Press.
Creating the book was a journey of five years, as Greg worked with Sallie – a student of bestselling author Pat Conroy when he taught school on South Carolina’s Daufuskie Island in 1969. The two of them explored that year – fictionalized in Conroy’s first published novel, The Water is Wide – their different lives’ experiences and much more as they found a structure and voice for Sallie’s recipes and stories.
Pat wrote a foreword for the book and the trio joined for a book signing in Beaufort, SC, during 2003.
The book remains available more than two decades later. And Sallie continues her work on and for Daufuskie, an unbridged sea island between Savannah, Georgia, and Hilton Head Island.
